Rather than being locked into whatever proprietary tool came with your specific machine, LightBurn works across GRBL, Ruida, Smoothieware, and Trocen controllers, meaning the software skills you build transfer even if you upgrade to different hardware down the line.
Where I’d manage expectations clearly: this is genuinely paid software with an annual license model, not something with a legitimate free full version despite how it sometimes gets searched. Core and Pro editions cover different hardware categories, GCode lasers versus DSP/Galvo systems specifically, so confirm which tier your machine actually needs before purchasing, buying the wrong tier for your laser type wastes money. And if you’re on an xTool machine specifically, check compatibility carefully first, some newer xTool models have moved to their own xTool Studio software rather than LightBurn support.
